Topic Tuesdays: Favorite Color Combos

Today is the second day of the work week. Time for Topic Tuesdays on Instagram to post another nail polish related prompt. This week is about our favorite color combos.

1) Pink and Blue

The first combo I thought of upon reading this prompt was pink and blue. When Pantone announced Rose Quartz and Serenity as the colors of the year a couple years ago, I was very excited. Not just because their names also reference characters from a couple of my favorite shows, but also they just look so sweet together. It's easy to think of gender reveal parties or babies when you see these two colors together, yes. But it's also the main colors of cotton candy. This combo is a fave of mine for sponge gradients and as blue polishes with pink shimmer or sparkle.

A well known color in this scheme is Sinful Colors's Cinderella. Absolutely beautiful and delicate. However, it's very sheer. I like layering it over baby blue and pinks. In the photo above it's over Barry M Laguna.

2) Green and Pink

Apparently I really like pink as an accent color.  Maybe it's because I'm subconsciously thinking of Sailor Jupiter when I see this combo. (Note: my favorite senshi are Mercury and Chibi Moon.)

I see this color combo in polish occasionally, especially as green with pink shimmer or shine. Takko Lacquer Matcha Latte is one of those shades.

3) Red and Blue

Red vs/and blue is such a classic color trope. Both look great together without looking too festive like red and green are. The richer the better. I particularly dig blue based polishes with red flakies or shimmer.

Pictured above is a mani I did with Femme Fatale Rose Red, a red with turquoise shimmer, paired with Hit the Bottle stamping polish in Smurf Blood. (Fact: Smurf Blood has both an amazing name and is an amazing color.)

4) Monochromatic

I'm not the most daring when it comes to stamping colors. Usually I use black or white, maybe gold. Sometimes I'll use the same color as any shimmer in a polish. Or, I'll do a monochromatic color scheme. Simple and it looks good. So why not?

I did a trilogy of these monochromatic manis with Sally Hansen Crayola shades over the past year. Pretty sure I stamped it with a Rica polish. The plate was definitely from Pueen.

5) Rainbow

Paint all the rainbows! I haven't done a lot of rainbow related nail art but I'm a sucker for a good rainbow glitter. I use Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday topper for my birthday mani every year.

I also like it just fine as a glitter crelly. KBShimmer's Oh Splat! is a perfect example of it. Looks like a jawbreaker to me. It's never a bad day when I have this on my nails.

What are your favorite color combos?
